Steve Wiltshire receives award for good service, honorary scouter certificate and chief scout's personal award. - May 2011

Steve has been involved in the 37th Kingswood for over 25 years. During this period he has undertaken a number of roles his most recent is as Group Scout Leader. During his period at the helm the numbers have increased dramatically and he has made great strides to integrate the community into scouting by utilising the group HQ for other community groups to meet and have fellowship. He has created good relationships with the church and other organisations in the area. Together with the Group Chairman there has been a vision to rebuild the old Scout HQ and replace it with a building fit for the 21st century scouting. Steve has led this with outstanding dedication from applying for lottery funding to galvanising the whole county into telephone voting for them for a large funding award. Steve can always be found at the HQ. Over the past 2 years he has engaged local community craftsmen to create the new HQ and has worked on the project himself often until after midnight and every weekend to ensure the job was complete. Throughout all of this Steve kept focus on the young people and has continued to lead the sections providing excellent scouting through a varied and balanced programme. This has sometimes needed to be adapted as the hall was in and out of use but numbers have continued to rise within the group and the building has raised scouting’s profile to the public within the area.
Steve is also an active member of the District executive and provides the committee with a shop floor view of the district. He assisted in revitalising one of the Explorer units by providing leaders to run it and allow the district to provide an additional unit for the east of the area.
Steve is a modest but passionate Scouter who has achieved much for the young people of Soundwell. I believe this distinguishes and outstanding service deserves recognition.
